The Whiskered Bat
(Myotis mystacinus)

Myotis alcathoe

Brandt's and Whiskered bats are really small species, same size as the pipistrelles. Muzzle and ears are black, the wing membrane is blackish brown. The tragus inside the ear is pointing like a knife blade. The two species are so similar that they were only been separated by scientists in 1958. Most of the french bat workers are still calling the Brandt's Bat and the Whiskered Bat "Black Muzzle Bats".
